Nejlah was born into minor royalty in the middle of the nineteenth century. As was custom, she was promised to a man as wife the day she was born. At the age of twenty, she was taken to the appointed place for the ceremony, only to find herself face to face with a ninety year old man, who already had four wives. She burst into tears on the way to her new room, to wait for her husband.
